Hypercalcemia
Question:
One of my cats was recently diagnosed with idiopathic hypercalcemia and I am interested in using Wysong Biotic pH+ to help raise the pH of his overly alkaline urine. It is my understanding that DL-Methionine is commonly used as an acidifier in many cat foods, while Potassium Citrate is used to accomplish the opposite. Because of this, I am trying to reduce, or eliminate DL-Methionine in my cat's diet. It seems counter-productive to me to include DL-Methionine in a supplement intended to lower urine pH. Could you please explain the reasoning behind its inclusion in Wysong Biotic pH+ to me?
Answer:
The Biotic pH+™ contains a trace amount of DL-Methionine as part of an amino acid pre-mix. It is in too small of an amount to make an impact on the urine pH.
